First things first

Beverly City and its neighbors

Beverly City is its own municipality with its own government and tax rate. It was incorporated as a borough in 1850 and became a city in 1857. A separate Beverly Township was formed nearby in 1859 and renamed Delanco Township in 1926.

The Beverly 08010 mailing address reaches beyond the city. Beverly National Cemetery, for example, has a Beverly address but sits in Edgewater Park Township. We confirm the municipality on every Beverly listing, because it decides the tax bill and the town services.

Neighborhoods

A small river city

Beverly takes its name from Beverley, England. The city covers about 0.54 square miles of land, bordered by the Delaware River, Delanco Township and Edgewater Park. Across the river is Bensalem Township, Pennsylvania.

There are no separately named sections to learn. The city is small enough that no home is far from the river or the River Line station.

Homes

What you will find

  • Older homes in a city incorporated in 1850.
  • Homes near the river along the Delaware River shoreline.

Worth knowing: Beverly sits right on the Delaware River, so homes on low ground near the shoreline can fall in a mapped flood zone. That affects flood insurance and what a lender will require. Many homes here are older, so the inspection and the history of the house deserve a close look.

Property taxes

Places worth knowing

Parks, landmarks and open space

  • The Delaware River waterfront: The city's riverfront looks across the Delaware to Bensalem Township, Pennsylvania. Steamboats once left from the Beverly dock at the foot of Broad Street, with five daily trips to Philadelphia by the 1870s.
  • Beverly Riverbank Historic District: The older riverfront blocks along the Delaware, from the city's northern line to Van Kirk Street, which the State Historic Preservation Office found eligible for the historic registers in 1994.
  • Warren Street: The Warren Street streetscape, from the city's northern line to Van Kirk Street, was also found eligible as a historic district in 1994.
  • Beverly National Cemetery (just outside the city): A national cemetery founded in 1863 on Bridgeboro Road. It has a Beverly address but sits just outside the city in Edgewater Park, and it was listed on the National Register in 1997.
